Challenge: Wildix’s key feature is its ability to function on a variety of client devices, including mobile applications and browsers, particularly Google Chrome. Daily users of the Wildix system can track the location of other participants while engaging in routine tasks such as making calls or chatting. This feature proves especially useful in corporate settings where geographic accessibility of colleagues is a factor in scheduling meetings or project discussions. A paramount task was to ensure the display of users’ exact coordinates, a requirement particularly relevant for 911 calls in the US.

Furthermore, the company aimed to consolidate all teams into a single environment to facilitate productive collaboration. This goal involved providing all necessary tools for secure, flexible, and mobile work within the Google Workspace ecosystem (GWS). Some Wildix teams were already utilizing GWS solutions, but the challenge now was to configure these tools for all company employees to enhance collaboration, access management, and authorization and authentication processes.

Solutions: Wildix has integrated modern geolocation capabilities using key APIs from Google Maps. Each plays a crucial role in enhancing the efficiency and usability of Wildix products:

  1. Geolocation API: This fundamental tool allows Wildix to receive real-time user location data. It’s essential for the safety of 911 calls, where accurate location information can be vital.
  2. Maps API: This allows for the integration of interactive Google Maps directly into Wildix products. It gives users access to detailed, visually appealing maps where they can track their own location as well as others’.
  3. Geocoding API: This converts an address into its geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude), and vice versa. It ensures high accuracy in location determination, particularly in scenarios where quick and precise user location is needed, such as during emergency calls. The Geocoding API automates the process of converting emergency call addresses into precise coordinates, ensuring a swift and efficient response.

Results: Integrating Google Maps into the Wildix product has expanded their unified communication services. This solution not only enhances interaction convenience and efficiency but also provides an unmatched level of security for users. Utilizing advanced technologies like Geolocation API, Maps API, and Geocoding API, the company didn’t just meet but exceeded user expectations for location accuracy.

This provided specific team members with the necessary functionalities, thereby optimizing company costs.

  1. Authentication: Secure authentication, a significant advantage of using corporate GWS, provided Wildix with secure access to company resources, simplified permission management, and effective account control and management for IT administrators.
  2. Disk: By using Google Drive, employees can easily store, access, and share files. This eliminates the need for third-party services, enables quick access to important information even when working remotely, and simplifies many information storage-related processes.
  3. Calendar: This tool became a central hub for Wildix teams to plan meetings and manage conference systems, significantly improving communication and coordination among employees.
  4. Authorization: Thanks to credentials for authorization, new employees can quickly access necessary systems and resources. This reduces administrative overhead while maintaining high security levels. The process of revoking access has also become faster and more efficient.
  5. Gmail: All company employees have access to a centralized platform for all corporate communications, simplifying email management and ensuring seamless correspondence. Switching to GWS paid plans provided IT administrators with additional security control and management functionality.
  6. Groups: Google Groups plays a key role in managing access to data and resources. By using Groups, Wildix can effectively categorize employee access levels to information, allowing administrators to assign access rights to large groups of people, quickly segregate users by various parameters such as projects or departments, and manage access to confidential information.

Cloudfresh Role: During the process of integrating Google Maps, Wildix encountered issues handling a large volume of geolocation data, leading to billing complications. To resolve this, they sought expert help from Cloudfresh. The Cloudfresh team conducted a comprehensive analysis of current API usage, with a focus on identifying key areas for cost optimization. This involved a thorough review of API requests, resource usage, and data traffic patterns to pinpoint any inefficient or excessive usage that could inflate costs.

From this analysis, an optimization strategy was formulated, enabling Wildix to cut the cost of using Google Maps APIs by roughly half, without compromising the quality or reliability of their services.

As the teams collaborated to transition to GWS services, Cloudfresh recommended the most suitable license types based on Wildix’s needs, assisted with the setup of necessary tools, and offered a chance to maximize GWS usage by combining two tariff plans and collaborating with a partner.
