What Is Google Vids: A New Kid on the Workspace’s Knowledge-Sharing Block
What Is Google Vids?
Teams everywhere are getting creative with Google Vids, changing the way they communicate, train, and collaborate.
Customer service reps, for instance, are using Vids to create explainer videos that make support faster and more scalable. No more scrapping entire videos when a product’s UI changes—they can simply swap out a scene, keeping content fresh with minimal effort. Meaning customers always get clear, up-to-date guidance without teams having to reinvent the wheel.
Company leaders are also jumping on board, using Google Vids to build stronger, more personal connections with employees. Instead of relying on long chains of e-mails or dry memos, they can send out quick, engaging video updates that actually feel human. A short message from leadership, packed with tone and intent, resonates far more than a wall of text and helps strengthen company culture and keep everyone aligned.
Meanwhile, learning and development teams, along with sales enablement pros, are turning to Google Vids to create powerful, scalable training materials. Whether onboarding new hires, rolling out fresh processes, or reinforcing best practices, video training makes information more engaging and easier to absorb. And since content can be updated on the fly, employees always have the latest and greatest resources at their fingertips.
Marketers are making the most of Google Vids, too. From event recaps to campaign updates and internal communications, the platform’s collaborative features make teamwork a team effort. Imagine an executive jumping into a scene to highlight key takeaways for an internal newsletter—instantly adding credibility and energy to the message.
Even project teams are rethinking the way they share updates. Instead of drowning in threads or static reports, they’re creating dynamic video recaps that boil down key insights into bite-sized, visual updates. It simply feels refreshing to keep stakeholders informed and engaged without making them sift through pages of text.
How Does Google Vids Work?
Adding your personal touch to a video has never been easier. Record yourself, your screen, or just your audio—then drop it into your project with only a few clicks. Want to take it up a notch? Improve your video with high-quality, royalty-free stock media, music, and more from the built-in content library. For an even more personal feel, pull in your own photos and videos straight from Google Drive or Google Photos.
Make your videos pop with Google Vids’ powerful creative tools. Add smooth animations, eye-catching transitions, and dynamic photo effects to keep your audience involved. Want to bring still images to life? Object tracking lets you add movement and flair. And when it’s time to collaborate, managing access is a breeze—you can easily control who can edit, comment, or view your video with intuitive permission settings.
Once the masterpiece is ready, viewers can watch it right in their browser—complete with auto-generated closed captions to make sure it’s accessible for everyone. And just like the rest of Google Workspace, your content stays protected with default encryption and built-in privacy controls, so your data remains secure every step of the way.
Introducing Google Vids AI
With Gemini in Vids, creating videos is easier—and smarter—than ever. The Help me create feature kickstarts your project with a first draft generated from a simple prompt, pulling in relevant content straight from your Google Drive. It even suggests media, text, scripts, and background music, helping you craft a compelling story in no time. Already have a vision? Browse a selection of high-quality video templates, neatly categorized by use case, to bring your ideas to life.
To be frank, recording videos can feel a bit overwhelming, especially if you’re camera-shy or just not sure where to start. That’s what Google Vids’ built-in recording studio is for: to give you the tools to boost your confidence and set things in motion (no pun intended!). Here’s how it helps:
- Scene-specific suggested scripts with Gemini under the hood.
- AI-generated professional voiceovers you can easily insert.
- A rolling teleprompter to keep your delivery smooth and natural.
Looking for something extra special beyond your Google Drive and Google Photos? The good news is that Gemini lets you remove backgrounds from existing pictures and even generate custom images with a single click, giving you complete creative freedom.
How to Use Google Vids
To use Google Vids, you’ll need a Google Workspace account. If you can’t access it, check with your administrator. If you are an admin yourself, make sure your organization is on a proper subscription level (more on that below).
Each video can be up to 10 minutes long, keeping content concise and engaging. Need to include a longer clip? No problem! You can insert videos from Google Drive (up to 30 minutes) into a scene and trim them as needed. Right now, video creation and editing are available only on desktop, but you can view videos on both desktop and mobile—so you can stay connected wherever you are.
Speaking of being connected, Google Vids supports local languages for general use, but AI-powered features—like Help me create, the read-along teleprompter, and templates mentioned above—are currently available only in English. So stay tuned for more language support in the future!
