Meet Googlebook: AI-First Laptop Built for Gemini

Google has introduced Googlebook, a new family of laptops designed around Gemini Intelligence. It unites Android apps, ChromeOS, and AI-powered experiences into one premium device ecosystem.

Announced at Android Show: I/O Edition 2026, Googlebook brings Gemini directly into everyday workflows, from contextual suggestions to personalized desktop experiences.

What Is Googlebook?

Googlebook combines the Android ecosystem with ChromeOS and Gemini AI to create laptops focused on speed, context, and connected work across devices.

The new devices are built in collaboration with hardware partners including HP, Lenovo, Dell, ASUS, and Acer, with the first models expected this fall.

Gemini Built into the Core Experience

One standout addition is Magic Pointer, a Gemini-powered cursor experience that offers contextual suggestions directly from the screen.

Users can:

  • Point at dates to create meetings on the fly
  • Merge images to visualize ideas
  • Access AI suggestions while working without switching apps

Google is also introducing “Create Your Widget,” so users can generate personalized desktop widgets using natural language prompts. Gemini pulls information from Gmail, Calendar, and the web to organize trips, schedules, reservations, and more in one place.

Built around the Android Ecosystem

Googlebook is designed for people working across multiple devices.

Features like Quick Access let users browse and paste files directly from their Android phones without manual transfers. Users can also open mobile apps next to laptop workflows and not interrupt what they’re doing.

Premium Hardware Meets AI Workflows

Google says every Googlebook device will feature premium materials and a distinctive Glowbar design element.

The launch signals Google’s growing focus on AI-native computing experiences where Gemini becomes part of how users interact with devices every day, not just another app running in the background.

Chromebook Stays—For Now

Googlebook is coming, but Chromebooks aren’t going anywhere for business and education.

You still get a full 10 years of automatic ChromeOS updates, and you can keep managing your existing fleet right from the Google Admin console, zero extra licenses required.

When you’re ready to make the switch to Googlebook, you can do it on your own timeline. Until then, your current Chromebooks remain a rock-solid investment.

“I’ve always looked at Chromebooks as the only devices running the real cloud OS out there. Google’s been adding AI to ChromeOS for a while, but Googlebooks are something completely different. By putting Gemini right at the core, they have a clear path to get AI into everyone’s hands.

The changes under the hood are just as big. Dropping the Linux-based ChromeOS for the new Android stack codenamed Aluminium OS means native Android apps and real mobile integration are finally here.

It’s hitting the workplace side, too. With upcoming Chrome Enterprise updates, you can manage the whole Googlebook fleet straight from the Google Workspace admin console. It’s cool to watch this happen. ChromeOS is stepping up from a basic operating system into a full ‘Intelligence System,’ and I’m more than excited to be working in this space right now.”
