Case Study: MTrading

"As a financial company, we needed GitLab to be deployed in our own environment—it’s non-negotiable. Security comes first. With Google Cloud and GitLab, we get the flexibility to scale securely on our terms. That 'pay-as-you-grow' thing? It’s not just marketing fluff, it’s real. What really sets the experience apart is the Cloudfresh team—everyone from the account executive to the C-level is focused on helping us grow and solving real business problems."

MTrading expanded, so did the complexity of its infrastructure. Managing a growing network, ensuring high availability, and securing development workflows became increasingly challenging. To address these issues, MTrading turned to Google Cloud, GitLab, and Google Workspace—leveraging a powerful combination of cloud-based infrastructure, security-first development, and enhanced collaboration. Cloudfresh played a key role in this transformation, providing consulting, technical expertise, and flexible payment options to ensure a smooth transition.

From Infrastructure Bottlenecks to Scalable Growth with Google Cloud

As MTrading grew, its reliance on traditional infrastructure became a roadblock. The company faced three major challenges:

  1. Scaling Limitations: Managing its own network infrastructure became increasingly complex, with high maintenance demands.
  2. High Upfront Costs: Expanding hardware capacity required significant investments, limiting agility.
  3. Data Fragmentation: Data was stored across diverse locations, making analysis slow and inefficient—sometimes taking days or even weeks.

Solution: Migrating to Google Cloud

To break free from these constraints, MTrading adopted a containerized approach, migrating its applications to Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE). This transition provided a fully managed, scalable environment, allowing the company to focus on innovation rather than infrastructure maintenance.

Additionally, MTrading consolidated its data operations using BigQuery, Google Cloud’s fully managed data warehouse designed for ultra-fast analytics on large datasets. With BigQuery, MTrading can now process massive datasets in seconds, run complex queries without managing infrastructure, and smoothly integrate data from different sources. This transformation has enabled real-time decision-making, improved accuracy, and eliminated the bottlenecks that once slowed down business intelligence efforts.

Results

  1. Zero Upfront Costs: Moving to a “pay-as-you-grow” model eliminated expensive hardware purchases, freeing up capital for business expansion.
  2. Scalability Without Complexity: Managed networking services required minimal maintenance, allowing the IT team to focus on strategic improvements.
  3. Stronger Reliability: MTrading’s Service Level Agreement (SLA) improved from 99.9% to 99.999%, ensuring an uninterrupted trading experience for clients.

Building a Secure and AI-Powered Development Process with GitLab

Security and efficiency are non-negotiable for a financial company like MTrading, especially when it comes to software development. The company previously hosted Git and CI/CD workflows on its own infrastructure, but this setup was difficult to maintain, slowing down development cycles and decreasing developer satisfaction in the pre-AI era.

Solution: GitLab & GitLab Duo

MTrading deployed GitLab and GitLab Runners within its private infrastructure, ensuring all code was stored, built, and tested in a closed, controlled environment. This move significantly reduced security risks while improving compliance.

But the biggest shift came with GitLab Duo, GitLab’s AI-powered assistant. With GitLab Duo, MTrading:

  • Automated Boilerplate Code: Developers no longer had to write repetitive code manually, increasing efficiency.
  • Streamlined CI/CD Management: GitLab Duo supported the ops team in maintaining pipelines, reducing failures and improving deployment speed.
  • Enhanced Developer Experience: With AI assisting in coding and testing, developer satisfaction saw a noticeable improvement.

Results

  1. Stronger Security: All code remains inside MTrading’s infrastructure, fully protected from external threats.
  2. Faster CI/CD Workflows: Developers configure pipelines faster, with fewer failures.
  3. Higher Developer Satisfaction: AI-powered tools make coding and testing more efficient, reducing frustration.

Google Workspace: A Smarter Way to Collaborate

While Google Cloud and GitLab transformed MTrading’s infrastructure and development workflows, Google Workspace played a supporting role by simplifying collaboration across global teams.

Before adopting Google Workspace, team members struggled with messy file management, version control issues, and security concerns. With Google Docs, Slides, and Sheets, MTrading eliminated the nightmare of tracking endless versions of the same document. Instead of searching for “final_final_really_final.pptx” in chat history, teams could now collaborate in real time.

For scheduling across multiple time zones, Google Calendar and Google Meet made coordination much easier. With teams spanning Asia to the Americas, employees no longer had to worry about missing meetings due to time differences, vacations, or national holidays.

Security was also a major priority. By enforcing “Sign in with Google” as the only login option for third-party services, combined with strict password policies and two-factor authentication (2FA), MTrading ensured that all business accounts remained secure—even beyond the Google ecosystem.

“We force Google Sign-In, and it’s a way better security model than trusting users to secure their own logins on every third-party service.“
Vladislav Rumjantsev CTO, MTrading
