Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform Marks the End of the Model-Centric Era

Welcome to part two of our Google Cloud Next ’26 series. Today, we are moving over to the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform.
What Is Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform?
Google just gave Vertex AI a massive promotion, making it into the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform. This is now a complete, end-to-end environment for building, managing, and fine-tuning AI agents.
It also unlocks a huge roster of models. We are talking Gemini 3.1 Pro for workflows, Gemini 3.1 Flash Image (also known as Nano Banana 2) for visual generation, Lyria 3 for audio, Gemma 4, plus Anthropic’s heavy hitters like Claude Opus 4.7, Sonnet, and Haiku.
Building & Scaling Your Agents
When it comes time to actually build these agents, Google is giving teams a lot of flexibility. If you don’t want to write code, you can use Agent Studio. If your engineers want to build from scratch, the Agent Development Kit (ADK) is ready to go. The updated ADK uses a new graph-based framework that makes it incredibly simple to link networks of sub-agents together, and it even supports real-time audio and video streaming.
The ecosystem around this is growing fast, too. You can grab ready-made agents from the Agent Marketplace, with options from Atlassian, ServiceNow, Workday, and Lovable already on board. Google is also fully supporting the Bring Your Own Model Context Protocol (BYO-MCP), meaning your agents can securely plug straight into your existing internal tools.
Major Runtime Upgrades
On the performance side, things are way faster. The new Agent Runtime wakes up in a split second, but the real headline is that these agents can now run securely in the background for days at a time, grinding through massive tasks like financial reconciliation without needing you to check in on them.
To make that happen, Google rolled out a Memory Bank and Memory Profiles, so agents actually remember specific user details from past conversations. They also added Custom Session IDs to easily track those interactions across systems like your CRM.

Keeping the Tech Secure & Optimized
Naturally, letting AI run autonomously for days requires serious guardrails, and Google built in a strict set of controls. Every agent gets a unique cryptographic ID (Agent Identity) to make sure they only access what they absolutely need, while the Agent Registry keeps a master list of approved tools. In the meantime, the Agent Gateway inspects all the data traffic and uses Model Armor to shut down prompt injection attacks and prevent data leaks.
If you want to fine-tune how your agents perform, the new testing tools are excellent. Agent Simulation lets you throw fake interactions at your agents to see how they handle stress. Agent Anomaly Detection uses another AI to catch any logic mistakes, and Agent Observability maps out exactly how an agent made a decision so you can troubleshoot reasoning errors. To top it off, Agent Optimizer actively reviews real-world failures and tells you exactly how to rewrite your instructions to fix them.
Each agent has a verifiable identity, operates within controlled access boundaries through the Agent Registry, and is continuously monitored via the Agent Gateway, with built-in protections like Model Armor against prompt injection and data leakage.
Combined with anomaly and threat detection, this creates a level of visibility and control that makes long-running, autonomous agents suitable for enterprise use.”

The Human Side: What Is Gemini Enterprise App?
So, how do humans actually interact with agents built on the Agent Platform? That happens inside the Gemini Enterprise App. It comes with an Inbox that’s also your daily command center, meaning you can watch what your agents are doing and quickly approve anything flagged as “Needs your input.”
There’s also a visual Agent Designer that lets you map out automated schedules without touching a line of code, thanks to reusable “@” Skills for repetitive tasks like applying brand guidelines. Finally, Projects act as shared workspaces where your human team and your AI agents can collaborate on your Google Drive and NotebookLM files, complete with an interactive Canvas editor that exports perfectly to MS365 formats.
Things are changing just as much over on the Govern and Optimize side. The Agent Gateway and Registry turn agents into highly secure, easily manageable assets with centralized control. At the same time, the Evaluation and Observability tools finally give you a real way to measure performance and track exactly what your agents are doing in the wild.”
